Summer in the Sunshine
Location: Lake Wylie & South End CLT
This summer has been everything. My goal this summer was to simply enjoy. I have done just that and it's not even over - I still have a month left until the school year starts up again. I have taken full advantage of the sunshine and being outside, it is giving me so much life.
I have been teaching swim lessons and babysitting for some extra cash. My schedule has been so great for me. I gave myself time to work a little, get things done around the apartment that has been put off for a while, plus living my life in the sun.
I have been biking, walking, boating, swimming, and reading - so much reading.
Summer is so good for my soul. I truly love the time to take care of myself. I have been enjoying slow mornings with coffee. Working out and reaching new goals. Vitamin D every single day. Long walks with the pup in the evenings. Reading new books after frequent visits to the library. Trying new things. Catching up with friends.
I love that I have been taking advantage of enjoying the summer. I felt today like I was ready to actually think about work and setting some new goals for the school year. But before I jump back to school mode I have fun exciting travel adventures to close out my summer - including one place I have never been before. Stay tuned.
Cheers to enjoying life, sunshine, and summertime.

The Summer of the Romper
Outfit: Sandals | Romper [this one is no longer available online but I linked the whole romper page so you can search for your own fun romper!]
I have officially declared this summer, the summer of the romper. I don't know what it is about rompers but I seem to have only purchased them for all of my fun summer events this season. They are so comfortable and truly versatile. The only problem is that I won't be able to wear them to work. I guess thats why I have embraced rompers and the summer together.
This romper is absolutely adorable. I love the detail on the back that really dresses it up. The material is a nice chiffon that can be worn with sandals like I have done here, or really dressed up for evenings with some fun heels.
Mike and I have been having so much fun exploring our area. We are literally walking distance to so many fun restaurants, breweries, and fun spots. I can't wait to share some of my new south end favorites with all of you! Summer has brought about so many new opportunities and adventures. I love looking cute but feeling super comfy all at the same time and that's what rompers provide for me!

Currently | June
Location: Vintage Charlotte Market at Camp North End
It's June, y'all. I am in my last week of school. It is the craziest week of the year, with field days celebrations, and talent show performances. I have been running around school making the most of my days by spending quality time with students. I am linking up with Anne and Erin for this months edition of Currently - which if you notice I am in summer mode full force.
planning: Summertime adventures. I am lucky enough to not be working at the school over the summer. So I am using my summer to do blog work, teach swim lessons, and take some fun trips to get some much needed R&R before next school year.
wishing: For sunny days. It has been storming lately here which is definitely the norm for Charlotte in the summer. But a girl can dream for sunny summer days, lighter hair, and a tan; right?
learning: About myself and my career choice. This year was my first full year as a school counselor and it has definitely been formidable for me. I have so much to reflect upon from this past year so that I can start planning how to improve upon the counseling program for next year.
browsing: Summer outfit ideas. Living in the mountains for as long as I have; I didn't really have need for summer clothes so my wardrobe is pretty lacking. I am loving all the cute styles for this summer and can't wait to share as I build summer clothes.
going: To the Outer Banks in a week to visit my sister with my family. I couldn't be more excited. I have talked about it on here for a few months now. I am in need of a beach vacation and family time.

The Importance of Friend Dates
Location: US National Whitewater Center
Sometimes, I get so caught up in everyday life that reaching out to people makes it to the bottom of my to do list. One of my goals for this year is to change that. I love my friends and my people, it's so important to me that they know that too. I realized that often times other people are like me, going through the tasks of daily life and waiting to be invited.
If I want the community that I crave I have to reach out and make it happen. That's why it's crucial to schedule time with friends. Go out for coffee, meet up for drinks, catch a workout class together, or just invite them to hang out at the pool with you. I always feel so much better after calling a friend and planning a friend date.
Life has a funny way of making everyone busy. Time passes by pretty fast. If we don't reach out and connect with the people that matter than they will start thinking that they don't matter to us anymore. Call a friend you have been meaning to catch up with today and let them know you are thinking of them. True friends will always make time. Support your friends in all they do, don't wait to be asked to do something, and never be afraid to reach out no matter how much time you have let pass.

When I Miss the Mountains
I am a mountain girl. I love the beach don't get me wrong. But there is something about the mountains that brings me an overwhelming feeling of peace. Maybe it's the fresh air, the outdoor adventure, and the vibrant expression of the seasons through nature. The mountains were home for 6 years of my life and I loved being able to go hiking at any opportunity.
Now, I live in the Queen City, which I love, but I don't get to walk out my door and explore a new hiking trail through the mountains. Sometimes I just miss that.
The Whitewater Center near Charlotte is full of hiking / mountain biking trails. I decided to take the plunge and get a parking pass for the year because I was homesick for Boone and outdoor adventure. I love going over to the USNWC because it just feels like my kind of people. Everyone is wearing their Chacos, people are hanging their hammocks up from every tree simply spending time outside, there are kayakers constantly in the water, and the trails are definitely something I have been taking advantage of.
Last week, I was on Spring Break. I had huge plans of just sitting by my pool and tanning, but then the doors proceeded to be locked and the office told me it won't open until memorial day [what! it's so hot here before then and I am going to need a pool and a tan pronto but I digress] So instead Mike and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and go hiking.
It was a gorgeous spring day. We decided to do the lake loop this time, it's a 3 mile hike that's pretty easy but takes you around all of the various "lakes" I think it was the best of both worlds being by some sort of body of water and hiking outside.
I got my mountain fix in and came home feeling more centered and like myself. Sometimes I really just need to reconnect with my mountain loving self and go for a hike.

Riverwalk Days
This weekend the weather was absolutely gorgeous. There was no way we could stay inside. My Aunt was in town visiting for my birthday and we wanted to have a fun family day on a budget! WE headed down to Riverwalk. A fun community in South Carolina, right across the border, with some awesome outdoor adventures.
Riverwalk has a greenway that follows along the Catawba River. This is my favorite place to walk around Charlotte because of the water alone. There is something about being by the water in the sunshine that can make any day be a good day. Here, at riverwalk you can also utilize the Kayak launch and kayak the river. There are also mountain bike trails that intersect with the greenway at certain points. Whatever your outdoor adventure you choose; this is the place to explore!
My sister and I decided to walk a little faster than the rest of the fam and got in a good 5 mile walk while we chatted about life and everything in between. We really haven't had many chances to talk like that in a few years - long distance face time and all. Sometimes all you need is a wonderful conversation with someone you love.
After our walk, we met back up with the family at the Pump House. A restaurant / rooftop bar right by the river. There are also other shops and fun places I want to check out next time by the river - including a coffee shop/ wine bar! We all got a fun drink and enjoyed the view with more lovely family time and conversation.
All in all, this weekend was a good one for the soul. Family time, sunshine, great conversation, drinks, and time spent being active outside.
Riverwalk details:
Location: Rock Hill, South Carolina ~30 minute drive from uptown.
Budget: Free for me! [thanks Daddy] but if you purchase your own after walk drinks ~$10 a drink + depending on how many you have and if you add food as well.
Time: 3+ hours. Really it's up to you - how far you want to walk - what shops you want to see - how long you spend at the pump house. You can even get a free book set up a hammock between some trees and read all day if thats what you wish!
How would you spend your time at Riverwalk?
